music update was given a couple new cd's recently. The Flaming Lips album "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots," i've mentioned here before because i was listening to it from the band's site. its even better on the CD, and i reccomend listening with headphones to really capture all of the sound. another thing i'm noticing is that the lyrics aren't nearly as far out there as i had originally thought. a couple of them fall into the story implied by the title, but they go resonate more deeply than you might expect. here is a sample or two: i thought i was smart, i thought i was right, i thought it better not to fight, i thought there was a virtue in always being cool. so when it came time to fight i thought i'll just step aside and that time would prove you wrong and that you would be the fool. from track 1, "Fight Test" one more robot learns to be something more than a machine, when it tries the way it does, makes it seem like it can love, cause its hard to say whats real when you know the way you feel, is it wrong to think its love when it tries the way it does. from track 2, "One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21" i also was given Mutual Admiration Society, a collaboration of the great band Nickel Creek and singer/songwriter Glen Phillips, formerly of Toad the Wet Sprocket. i'm only on track 4, listening as i type this, so i'll have more thoughts for you later on that one.
